Michael Wilson Ph.D.
Professor Michael Wilson: Dean of the College of Health and Science at the University of Western Sydney. Dr. Wilson is author of the monograph “The Applications of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance to Geochemistry and Soil Science" and co author of a second book “Nanotechnology”. He obtained his PhD in 1974 and DSc in 1988. He is or has been on the editorial boards of the journals, Energy and Fuels, Organic Geochemistry and Solid State NMR and was a member of the Prime Ministers working party on Crime and Science. He has published over fifty refereed journal papers on fullerenes and nanotubes in a total of 324. His contributions to carbon nanotechnology include the discoveries and detection of the first odd numbered carbon nanotube and the discovery that the natural abundance isotope ratio in nanotubes differs from fullerenes. His other area of research is the organic geochemistry of soils (particularly where relevant to petroleum refining) and the organic geochemistry petroleum formation. Recent interests are in nanoapatite layers and nanoaluminosilicates. He is a member of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Functional Nanomaterials.
